Qureshi grew up in an American Ahmadi Muslim family, in a community that takes its own apologetics seriously and trains its young people to defend the faith. Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus is his account of arguing his way out of it across several years with a university friend who would not let the argument drop. He keeps the affection for his parents in the book, which is the hardest thing to manage in that genre and the reason it was read on both sides of the disagreement. He qualified in medicine and then worked full time in lecturing and apologetics. He was diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer in 2016, posted video updates through the treatment, and died in 2017 at thirty-four.
