Paul Creswick retold the Robin Hood tradition as a continuous adventure shaped by loyalty, disguise and resistance to unjust authority. His Robin Hood follows Robin Fitzooth from his early encounters, his visit to Gamewell and the Nottingham fair into the fellowship associated with Sherwood Forest. A 1917 edition published in Philadelphia by David McKay paired Creswick’s narrative with colour plates by N. C. Wyeth, whose name and illustrations are an important part of that edition’s identity. Creswick, who lived from 1866 to 1947, wrote fiction for younger readers as well as historical adventures. His version places familiar figures such as Little John, Will Scarlet and Maid Marian within a long-form account rather than a loose set of ballads.
