Peter Heller
1959
Peter Heller combines literary suspense with close attention to wilderness and outdoor skill. The Guide returns to Jack, the young survivor introduced in The River, and places him at an exclusive Colorado fishing lodge where a routine guiding job opens onto a dangerous mystery. Knopf released it in 2021, with Vintage publishing the paperback the following year. Heller's fiction also includes The Dog Stars, The Painter, and Celine, while his nonfiction draws on reported adventures in surfing, conservation, and river travel. An Iowa Writers' Workshop graduate and longtime contributor to outdoor publications, he brings practical knowledge of landscape and movement to thrillers in which the natural setting actively shapes every decision.
