Rachel Deagan
Rachel Deagan uses concealed identities and family history to complicate belonging in paranormal fiction for teen readers. Caged Moon begins a sequence later joined by the companion novella Alpha Moon and the sequel Lunar Passing. Seventeen-year-old Charlotte carries fear from an earlier animal encounter, then learns that a boy met during a camping trip is connected to questions about her past. Deagan's interest in invented worlds began during childhood, when she first attempted to write a book. The series directs that imagination toward werewolf mythology, romance, and the difficulty of judging someone who seems both familiar and unknown. The initial novel came out during 2012 and establishes Charlotte's perspective before subsequent volumes widen the sequence. Its central pressure comes less from cataloguing supernatural rules than from watching secrecy alter trust. Each explanation has a personal consequence because Charlotte's growing knowledge changes how she understands family, attraction, and the event she has never completely resolved.
