Robert Masello
Robert Masello writes thrillers that combine historical figures, documented events, and supernatural danger. The Haunting of H. G. Wells places the English author in 1914 as war begins to reshape Europe. Masello follows Wells from public arguments about politics and technology into encounters with battlefield ghosts and a conspiracy threatening Britain. The premise draws on Wells's real role as a commentator on war and social change while remaining a work of speculative historical fiction. Published in 2021, the novel continues Masello's recurring interest in putting documented lives beside invented mysteries. His other books include The Romanov Cross, The Einstein Prophecy, The Jekyll Revelation, and The Night Crossing, which engage subjects ranging from imperial Russia to scientific discovery and literary history. A Princeton graduate, he has also worked as a journalist, written nonfiction on the craft of writing, and contributed to television. The Haunting of H. G. Wells is characteristic of his method because an actual writer's ideas become active pressures within an adventure plot.
