It's Perfectly Normal has been giving ten-year-olds plain information about puberty, sex, contraception and abortion since 1994, illustrated by Michael Emberley with a bird and a bee arguing in the margins. It is also one of the most banned books in the United States, pulled from libraries and, in a few places, reported to police as obscene. Harris trained as a teacher and worked at the Bank Street College of Education, and every edition has been checked by paediatricians and psychologists. She has written a shelf of picture books for much younger children as well.
