Gaudiani, a physician board certified in internal medicine, wrote Sick Enough because people with eating disorders routinely decide that their weight or their test results do not qualify them for help, and because clinicians who see such cases rarely miss what is happening in the body. Routledge published it in 2018 and a revised edition followed. It works through the medical consequences system by system, using case sketches rather than statistics, and it is pitched at patients and families as much as at doctors. She was medical director of an inpatient unit in Denver for years before founding the Gaudiani Clinic, the outpatient practice she owns and runs.
