Murder Most Unladylike appeared from Corgi in June 2014 and set two schoolgirl detectives loose in Deepdean School for Girls in the 1930s: Daisy Wells, who wants to be Sherlock Holmes, and Hazel Wong, newly arrived from Hong Kong, who keeps the casebook. Their science mistress is found dead in the gymnasium and the body vanishes before anyone else can see it. The book took the Waterstones Children's Book Prize in the five to twelve fiction category in 2015, was retitled Murder Is Bad Manners for America, and grew into a long-running series with a wartime spin-off, The Ministry of Unladylike Activity, from 2022. Robin Stevens was born in California in 1988 and moved to Oxford at three; her father was Master of Pembroke College there. She read English at Warwick, took an MA in crime fiction at King's College London, sold books at Blackwell's and edited at Egmont. Agatha Christie, Ngaio Marsh and Dorothy L. Sayers stand behind the pastiche.
