Rudolf Erich Raspe

Rudolf Erich Raspe (1736-1794) was a German librarian, scientist, and writer whose life mixed genuine scholarship with fraud and flight from creditors. Settling in England, he anonymously wrote the first English collection of Baron Munchausen's tales, the work for which he is now remembered.
