Sarah Vaughan, born Sarah Hall in 1972 and brought up in Devon, read English at Brasenose College, Oxford, then worked eleven years at the Guardian as a news reporter, health correspondent and political correspondent, leaving the paper in 2008. Her first two novels were The Art of Baking Blind (2014), built around a baking competition, and The Farm at the Edge of the World (2016), a timeslip story set in north Cornwall that did particularly well in France. Anatomy of a Scandal (2018), which puts a government minister on trial, sat on the Sunday Times bestseller list for ten weeks and was filmed by Netflix in 2022 with Sienna Miller and Michelle Dockery. Little Disasters (2020) sets Liz, a paediatric consultant, against Jess, a friend of ten years who arrives in the emergency department with her ten-month-old daughter, a blow to the child's head, and an account that does not hold up. Paramount+ adapted it in 2025 with Diane Kruger and Jo Joyner. Vaughan lives near Cambridge.
