Stasia Black grew up in Texas, put in five years in Minnesota and has since settled in central California, and she files her novels under dark contemporary romance. Break So Soft and Hurt So Good are the second and third parts of her Love So Dark trilogy, which starts with Cut So Deep. Several other series run alongside it, among them the Marriage Raffle books and the Beauty Trilogy. What she says she wants from a romance is the version that refuses the easy way out, poking at motives a gentler book would leave alone.
