Stephen Graham Jones
1972
Jones is Blackfeet, was raised in west Texas, and has published more than thirty books, most of them horror, at a rate that unsettles people who assume literary care and volume are opposites. Night of the Mannequins is a novella narrated by a teenager whose account of what a department store dummy did to his friends stops being reliable somewhere around the second page, and it took a Shirley Jackson Award. The Only Good Indians put four Blackfeet men in front of something that had been waiting ten years for them, and made his name outside the genre. He teaches at Boulder and writes about slasher films with the seriousness other critics keep for Bergman.
