Susan Coolidge

Susan Coolidge was the pen name of Sarah Chauncey Woolsey (1835–1905), an American writer born in Cleveland, Ohio. She is best remembered for her What Katy Did series, which began in 1872 and followed the lively Carr children, becoming a fixture of nineteenth-century fiction for girls. Woolsey served as a volunteer nurse during the Civil War and also worked as an editor, poet, and author of travel pieces for adult readers.
