Victoria Schwab publishes under two forms of her name, the fuller one on books for younger readers and V. E. Schwab on the adult fantasy, which includes the Shades of Magic trilogy, Vicious and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. Tunnel of Bones belongs to the first group. Scholastic issued it in 2019 as the second Cassidy Blake book, following City of Ghosts. Cassidy is a girl who nearly drowned and came back able to cross into the space where the dead are; she travels with her ghost-hunting parents and a dead best friend called Jacob, and this one takes the family to Paris and a poltergeist in the catacombs. She has said the split between the two names is about reader expectation rather than about concealing anything.
