William Beebe

William Beebe (1877-1962) was an American naturalist, ornithologist, and explorer associated for most of his career with the New York Zoological Society. He wrote prolifically for general readers and is often counted among the early founders of ecology and a leading advocate for conservation. He is best remembered for his deep-sea descents in the bathysphere off Bermuda during the 1930s, which set records for the deepest human dives of their era.
