William Bowen

William Alvin Bowen (1877–1937) was an American lawyer who wrote a handful of children's fantasies in the 1920s. Born in Baltimore, he published The Enchanted Forest in 1920 and The Old Tobacco Shop a year later. The latter was a runner-up for the inaugural Newbery Medal in 1922, a distinction later counted as a Newbery Honor, and remains the work he is best remembered for.
