Dillon Wallace combined law, exploration, and authorship in books that grew from demanding journeys through Labrador and other northern regions. The Lure of the Labrador Wild recounts the 1903 expedition led by Leonidas Hubbard with Wallace and George Elson. Their objective was to travel through the Labrador interior toward Lake Michikamau, but errors, dwindling provisions, and severe weather turned the attempt into a struggle to return. Wallace's account records both the landscape and the decisions that shaped the expedition, including Hubbard's death and Elson's effort to obtain help. The book established Wallace's reputation and prompted a later return to Labrador, described in The Long Labrador Trail. He went on to write further travel narratives and outdoor fiction, often emphasizing practical knowledge, endurance, and companionship. The Lure of the Labrador Wild remains his central work because it combines personal testimony with a detailed record of a journey whose ambitions, mistakes, and consequences continued to be debated by later participants and historians.
