About this book
A commentary on Ecclesiastes is a work by Thomas Pelham Dale. The commentary says the conclusion of the whole is significantly the same as the topic at the beginning, 'Vanity of vanities, the whole is vanity.' The commentary says, with the words we believe, that it is quite a mistake to imagine that the close of the book contains an allegorical description of old age.
The commentary says the aphorism Fear God and keep His commandments contains the only possible solution of providential difficulties or remedy of human ills. The commentary reports that the Epilogue has been pronounced by some to be an interpolation, the work of a later hand. A verse set out in the text reads 'I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things'.
