About this book
The discussion of brain fever asks whether the patients described by Dr. Watson suffered from hysteria, a possibility the text says cannot entirely be ruled out. The medical argument says high fever and dangerous illness would count against hysteria, and considers it fairly safe to assume that the disease probably had an organic basis. The medical discussion says that neurology had not yet come into its own.
The examination of Mycroft and Sherlock describes both men as remarkably keen and alert, discussing their intelligent faces and introspective appearance. The discussion of Watson’s writing rejects the argument that descriptions of weather were used to pad his manuscripts.
