About this book
The Adventure of the Cardboard Box is a book by Arthur Conan Doyle. The narrator says that in choosing a few typical cases which illustrate the remarkable mental qualities of his friend, Sherlock Holmes, he has endeavoured, as far as possible, to select those which presented the minimum of sensationalism. The day is a blazing hot day in August, and Baker Street is like an oven.
Holmes says to Watson that it does seem a most preposterous way of settling a dispute, and Watson stares at him in blank amazement. Lestrade waits at the door of the police-station with a telegram for Mr. Holmes. A speaker tells Lestrade that a shocking crime has been committed and that he thinks he has now laid bare every detail of it. A speaker says that they took tickets for New Brighton, that he took one too and got in three carriages behind them, and that he saw them hire a boat and start for a row.
