About this book

A History of Mediaeval Jewish Philosophy is by Isaac Husik, and its preface says no excuse is needed for presenting to the English reader a History of Mediæval Jewish Philosophy. One section describes a thinker, called the master of knowledge through the middle ages alike for Jew, Christian and Mohammedan, who classified all objects of our experience into ten classes or categories.

The text asks what change is and gives the examples of an acorn that passes a number of stages before it is ripe and a block of marble made into a statue. A discussion of the soul sets out the view that the soul is not eternal, that it was created and bestowed upon body, and that when a body comes into being the character of its mixture determines what kind of soul shall be connected with it. Albo's own view, in a passage on reward, is that there is a twofold reward, in this world and in the next, and he quotes Maimonides's opinion that the real reward is purely spiritual enjoyed by the soul alone.
