About this book
A Knight of the Cumberland places a man and two young girls on a mountain journey through a jagged gap worn by water in the Cumberland Mountains. The narrator rides a gray horse, followed by the narrator's small sister and the Blight on mules, with the Blight dressed for riding in a park or horse show. A mountain youth fixes a look of fearful hatred on an engineer, but the youth's face calms when he sees the Blight.
Marston and the Blight sit beneath porch vines until the moon rises over Wallens Ridge, and the Blight says she does not want to go home. The Hon. Sam announces the Knight of the Cumberland's tournament victory, while the narrator's little sister draws attention to tears in the Blight's eyes.
