About this book

A Little Norsk is by Hamlin Garland. A watcher stands with his eye to the loop-hole and mutters that he may be in the swale. The snow was beginning to ramp and race across the level sod till it looked at times like a sea running white with foam and misty with spray. One person had taken to pacing up and down the little room, which was exactly six paces long and three wide.

Anson asks who Kendall is, one night late in the winter, of Gearheart, who was reading the paper while his companion reread a letter from Flaxen. Anson laughs and says that she is getting over her homesickness and is all right now that she has got out to a sociable. A speaker says that if he is caught in that blow, his life is not worth a cent.

About the author

Hamlin Garland - BDeBooks
Hamlin Garland

A boyhood on farms in Wisconsin, Iowa and Dakota Territory gave Hamlin Garland the material he worked for fifty years. Born in 1860 near West Salem, Wisconsin, he left for Boston in 1884, read Henry George in the public library, and turned single-tax anger into fiction that refused to make prairie farming look picturesque.
