About this book
A Mountain Woman is by Elia Wilkinson Peattie. The foreword says that most of the tales in this little book have been printed before. A woman in the text says she had a terrible dream once, in which the mountains had all been taken down and she stood on a plain to which there was no end.
David's mother, a good woman who lived near her favorite meeting-house, wept when he left home in the evening for any purpose of pleasure. One cabin is described with a fireplace of rude brick in the front room and, in the bedrooms, cots as bare and hard as a nun's.
