About this book

The preface to the second edition says the author has tried to remedy earlier omissions by giving the subjects of all the windows, adding occasional special notes, and inserting some pictures of the chapel. The foundation account says Henry VI founded King’s College for a rector and twelve scholars in 1441, before remodelling the plan in 1443.

The description identifies the chapel’s style as rich perpendicular, at the point where the last Gothic meets the early Renaissance. The account records a lectern given to the college by Robert Hacomblen, who was provost from 1509 to 1528, with candle branches added in 1668.
