About this book
The history recounts how Abu Jaʿfar wrote to Jawhar at the request of a deputation of wives seeking, if possible, renewed offers of peace. The Fatimid general assented and issued an order forbidding the troops to pillage or commit violence. Jawhar entered the city preceded by drums and flags, wearing silk embroidered with gold and riding a cream coloured horse. Jawhar rode through the city with his men, passed out on the north-east side and pitched camp, marking out a great square late in the evening.
The account of al-Hafiz describes his decision to serve as his own wazir and says that he was generally regarded with respect and attachment. The court was divided into factions through quarrels over the heirship between two sons.
