About this book

The preface to A Short Method of Prayer says the little work was not written with the thought of its being given to the public, but was prepared for the help of a few Christians who were desirous of loving God with the whole heart. The contents list chapters called Exhortations to Preachers and Preparation for Divine Union.

Chapter XIV, on the faults committed in this degree, says that as soon as we fall into a fault, or have wandered, we must turn again within ourselves, and that it is of great importance not to be anxious about these faults, because the anxiety only springs from a secret pride and a love of our own excellence. The text quotes what Paul said: I forget those things which are behind, and reach forth unto those things which are before; I press toward the mark.
