About this book

Letters of Madam Guyon is presented as selections of her religious thoughts and experiences, translated and re-arranged from her private correspondence. The preface says Madam Guyon's correspondence was very extensive, occupying five printed volumes. The preface describes her style of writing as somewhat diffuse, and says that giving religious advice to many persons would necessarily bring frequent repetitions.

A letter headed Reign of Christ in the Heart says that an external religion has too much usurped the place of the religion of the heart. The contents list titles such as, among others, Comfort in Affliction, Self-Abandonment, Live in the Present and How to Administer Reproof. Another part of the contents list is headed Selections from Her Poetry, with the titles A Little Bird I Am and God Everywhere. A letter headed Comfort in Affliction tells a Dear Sir that the writer sympathizes deeply in his afflictions.
