About this book
A Treatyse of Fysshynge wyth an Angle is credited to Dame Juliana Berners. A note on the author says that nothing definite is known of the reputed authoress, Dame Juliana Barnes or Berners, who is said to have been a daughter of Sir James Berners of Roding Berners in the county of Essex. Donne, Wotton and Herbert, Paley, Bell and Davy are named among such men as found that not their bodily health only, but also their morals, were improved by angling.
The treatise gives directions for making floats and says to take a fair cork that is clean without many holes. A notice says that a facsimile of the Book of Saint Albans, containing the treatises on hawking, hunting, and heraldry, is in the press and shortly will be published.
