About this book
Adventures of an Aide-de-Camp has the subtitle Or, A Campaign in Calabria, Volume 1 and is by James Grant. The contents list names chapters called The Landing in Calabria, Truffi the Hunchback and The Battle of Maida, among others. The account describes the Royal Artillery, under Major Lemoine, getting eleven field-pieces and two howitzers into service order. The account says that, strange to say, not the slightest opposition was made to our landing, although there were many commanding points from which a few light guns would have mauled the boats and battalions severely.
The general tells a man addressed as Dundas that the light troops are under the command of Major Kraünz, who, the general believes, is no friend of Dundas. The text says Diomida was formed for love and delight, and anger fled from her presence.
