About this book
After Waterloo, with the subtitle Reminiscences of European Travel 1815-1819, is credited to William Edward Frye. The preface says the knowledge of Major Frye's manuscript and the privilege of publishing it for the first time are owed to the kindness of two French ladies.
A passage says it would be very absurd and presumptuous in the writer of that passage to attempt to give a catalogue raisonné of buildings and pictures and statues. Acquapendente is described as situated on a lofty eminence from which several magnificent cascades descend into the ravine below and which give the name to the town. The text says that of some soldiers belonging to the Papal army, the writer found that most had served under Napoleon, and that they spoke of him with tears of affection in their eyes.
