Tom keeps his head and bends every energy to getting the motor started again while his airplane starts to shoot downward at frightful speed, over the German lines with a battle in progress under him. The engine yields to Tom's frantic efforts and once more commences to throb with renewed life, Tom manages to right his tottering plane and steady it on an even keel, and his observer lies in a huddled heap in his seat. Tom again takes to the road, since it was necessary that they reach the cemetery where the big bombing plane awaited their coming, and a figure crashes out of a thicket without warning and comes face to face with them.
