Charles Amory Beach wrote Air Service Boys in the Big Battle, with the subtitle Or, Silencing the Big Guns. The news reaches Tom and Jack at the headquarters of the flying squad to which they are attached that about ten thousand American soldiers were at that time on French soil. Jack asks his chum whether he knows what the news means for them, and the answer is that it means they have got to apply for a transfer and fight under Pershing.
The text says the aeroplane observations had given the very information needed, and that Tom and Jack were congratulated, not only by their comrades, but by the commanding officer himself. Tom and Jack hover in an aeroplane over the place whence the German guns had fired upon the Americans, and Jack touches the bomb releasing device.
