About this book
Airplane Photography is by Herbert Eugene Ives, who is described as lately officer in charge of the experimental department of the photographic branch, Air Service. The preface says airplane photography had its birth, and passed through a period of feverish development, in the Great War. According to the preface, the application of aerial photography to mapping and other peace-time problems promises soon to quite overshadow its military origin.
The book says numerous scientific uses for aerial views seem likely, with geology, for the study of the various forms of earth sculpture, prominent among them. According to the book, river courses, glacier formations, cañons and all the larger natural formations are today quickly and accurately recorded by the camera in the air. The book says that when a stereo oblique is made in correct relief of such an object as the Washington monument with buildings beyond, the confusion of the background presents an appearance entirely contrary to our visual experience.
