Akbar, subtitled An Eastern Romance, is a book by P. A. S. van Limburg Brouwer. The title page says the book was translated from the Dutch, with notes and an introductory life of the Emperor Akbar. The introductory life says the object of the Romance is to convey a generally accurate idea of the court of Akbar, the greatest and best native ruler that ever held sway over Hindustan.

The introductory life says Abú-l Fazl hurriedly set out for Agra, only accompanied by a few men. The text says that Salim, thinking it an excellent opportunity of getting rid of his father's faithful friend, bribed Rajah Bir Singh, a Bundela chief of Urchah, to waylay him. The text gives the 12th of August 1602 as the day when Bir Singh's men came in sight, at a distance of a few miles from Narwar. A character named Salim answers that "you have a right to reproach me", and a character named Iravati listens to him with astonishment.
