About this book
The Nameless Castle is by Mór Jókai, translated from the Hungarian under the author's supervision by S. E. Boggs. In an introduction to the English translation, the author says the present edition aims to give the English reading public a correct translation. A child in a vaulted saloon hung with faded tapestry shows alarm, and an old gentleman rubs her feet with a flannel cloth and lays her on a bed, while a younger man finds a large, beautifully dressed doll.
A baroness takes a part in a play on a hastily improvised stage and joins a hunt after the pheasants and deer on her estate, and the officers improvise a horse-race and even a circus. Count Vavel, in his tower, is an interested spectator of many of these amusements, and once took part in just such sports himself.
