Alcohol: A Dangerous and Unnecessary Medicine is a work by Martha Meir Allen (1854-1926), the American temperance reformer who led the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union’s campaign against alcohol in medicine. Allen gathered the medical case against routine alcoholic prescription, then standard practice, marshalling physicians’ testimony to argue it did more harm than good.
