About this book
Alcuin of York consists of lectures delivered in the Cathedral Church of Bristol, with illustrations accompanying the work. The preface explains that varying forms of proper names remain uncorrected so that their spellings preserve the variations used by Alcuin and others. A letter to the monks of Wearmouth and Jarrow urges frequent reading of the Rule of Saint Benedict and explanation in the vulgar tongue so all may understand.
A letter to Arno expresses longing to see him at St. Martin's for his sweet eyes and lovable talk. Alcuin’s reply to Beornwin expresses a wish to be worthy of preaching peace rather than sowing discord, and affirms willingness to remain at peace.
