About this book
This volume gathers three works by Sir Thomas Browne: Religio Medici, Hydriotaphia and A Letter to a Friend. The 1869 London edition has an introduction and notes by J. W. Willis Bund, and a transcriber's note explains that the footnotes and endnotes were renumbered.
One passage touches on judicial astrology: the writer says he owes a knee not to Mercury or Jupiter but to the merciful hand that ordered his birth, and that all things begin and end in the Almighty. Another passage discusses burial urns, bones and ashes, and funeral pyres. A further passage gives reasons offered for different ways of disposing of the dead, including the view of Thales that water was the original of all things.
