About this book
Alfgar the Dane or the Second Chronicle of Aescendune is a tale of the days of Edmund Ironside by the Rev. A. D. Crake. The chapter list names, among others, The Diary of Father Cuthbert, Alfgar, Son of Anlaf and The Night of St. Brice.
The text says many of the pagans live as settlers in the neighbourhood, and that their presence is tolerated for fear of the reprisals which might follow any acts of hostility against them. The text names a settler called Anlaf, who married an English girl and had one child, Alfgar by name. The Etheling appears looking wild and agitated, and his first words ask where Alfgar is. One speaker turns to Anlaf and calls him an old companion in arms.
