About this book
The title page lists the original of the inhabitants and the remarkable voyages thither. The title page also lists the conquest of the vast empires of Mexico and Peru.
The title page further names their cities, fortresses, towns, temples, mountains and rivers, their habits, customs, manners and religions, and their plants, beasts, birds and serpents. A list of flies includes the Gurnipper, a small black fly no bigger than a flea whose biting causes an itching upon the hands or face, and the Musketor, which is not unlike to our gnats in England. The ancient inhabitants are described by their several shires or divisions: those in the east and north-east bore the name of Churchers and Tarrenteens, and those in the southern parts were called Pequods and Narragansets. Fernandez called a city Cairo, for its wonderful bigness, from the Egyptian metropolis, famous through the world.
