About this book
The History of Louisiana describes countries on both sides of the River Missisippi, with accounts of settlements, inhabitants, soil, climate, and products. The account calls the Forks of the Missisippi, where the Ohio enters the river, the most important place in the country and perhaps in all North America. The river discussion says Canadians come to Louisiana by the river of the Miamis.
The account of food describes two kinds of millet, Choupichoul and Widlogouil, shelled in the manner of rice and growing almost without cultivation. The food account says earth-nuts and chestnuts are used only when necessity obliges the people described.
