About this book

An American Suffragette is a novel by Isaac N. Stevens. The dedication offers the book to women of England and America who are trying to demonstrate to the world that Civilization cannot reach the supreme heights of progress without giving freedom to the mental, spiritual and physical energies of women. Earl tells Bedford and others who press him about a Paris case that he never gives interviews and has come back to practice his profession in New York City.

The text says Leonora Kimball had been betrothed in Vienna three months previously and that it was agreed the pair were to be married soon after his arrival home. Mrs. Briglow-Jorliss passes the suffrage parade off as merely a tatterdemalion host of the riff-raff of the city led by a few notoriety seekers. The text argues that a person skilled in the knowledge of poisons and their effects, as Dr. Earl is, would scarcely have undertaken to poison two people in this clumsy and uncertain fashion.
