About this book
An Epitome of the History of Medicine is by Roswell Park, Professor of Surgery in the Medical Department of the University of Buffalo, and is based upon a course of lectures delivered in the University of Buffalo. The preface says the history of medicine has been sadly neglected in our medical schools.
The text says the pulse was divided into the supreme or celestial, the middle, and the inferior or terrestrial, and that the Chinese physician was supposed not only to show the seat of disease, but to judge of its duration and gravity. The text says that for a long time there existed at Pekin an Imperial School of Medicine. The text says Boerhaave was invested with several functions at the University of Leyden and also occupied the chair of medicine. The text says the world has seen few extensive wars since the introduction of the antiseptic system, and that in such as have occurred its incalculable value in military hospitals has been amply demonstrated.
