An Interesting Journal of Abner Stocking of Chatham, Connecticut details the distressing events of the expedition against Quebec, under the command of Col. Arnold in the year 1775. The editor's preface says that three journals of members of Arnold's famous expedition to Quebec were already reprinted and that a fourth, written by Private Abner Stocking, is now presented. Mr. Stocking, a native of Chatham, in Connecticut, is described as one of the little band of patriots designed for the expedition. The text says the detachment commenced its march from Cambridge, near Boston on the 23rd of September, when and where Mr. Stocking began his journal.
The entry for November 3d records going down the river about 20 miles and wading several small rivers, some of them up to their middles. At evening the party comes in sight of a house, the first they had seen for the space of 31 days. General Carlton came into the gaol and gave the writer's party the offer of returning home on parole.
