About this book
Anton's Last Dream, by Edwin Baird, is described as a brief tale of the dismal success of a scientist's experiment. Anton Slezak, a chemist, believes that anything that man can dream, man can do. Anton's dreams had brought him great riches, because he had discovered ways of converting waste into things of commercial value, among them cornstalks into cloth, weeds into paper and coal soot into lacquer.
Anton is employed in developing a dream, the fulfilment of which could have no practical value whatever. One scene has Robin lunging desperately, too late, as the revolver speaks once and he sinks to the floor. Zora screams, the revolver speaks a second time, and she collapses beside her lover, while Anton kneels beside them and watches them die.
