About this book
Armenian Legends and Festivals is by Louis A. Boettiger. The preface says it is particularly urgent that Americans have authentic studies of Armenia and Armenian social life. The preface says that heretofore there has been a striking lack of such materials readily accessible in English.
The text says a great stone is placed over the chimney to keep children at play and grazing animals from falling through, and that the windows are funnel shaped holes through the ceiling spanned with oiled paper. The text says the Armenian household is one in which the people live day and night during eight winter months of the year in the coldest section of the country, as Erzerum and Mush. The writer says that the church has been the chief means of keeping alive the currents of national life, that it is a national church, and that it has identified itself with the common life of the people. The text says that in Constantinople the Armenians have not at all given up their ways to imitate any of the three peoples mentioned.
