About this book
At Large is a book by Arthur Christopher Benson, dated 1908. The contents list names, among others, chapters on contentment, friendship, humour and shyness. The writer asks what a hapless bachelor, professionally occupied and tied down in a certain place for just half the year, is to do with the other half.
A farmer puts up a little notice-board to indicate that a path was private, and a day or two afterwards it is removed and thrown into a ditch. The writer describes a character called the New Man as entirely vigorous, cheerful, affectionate, sensible, and robust. The writer says that the simple questions the man Friday poses to Robinson Crusoe are the questions which naturally arise in the mind of any thoughtful child.
