About this book
Auguste Rodin, subtitled The Man, His Ideas, His Works, is by Camille Mauclair. The writer says that what is asked is a study, not a panegyric. The writer names as the whole ambition precise details about the man, the work, and the iconography, and clear explanations of technicalities and ideas.
The text speaks of a list of statues, an approximate list, since many fragments of this great mass of work have been destroyed by Rodin himself, especially in the earlier part of his career, before 1877. The contents list includes, among others, a first chapter on the youth and early work of Rodin, with his stay in Brussels and work there, and “The Age of Brass” at the Salon of 1877. The writer considers Rodin a very great poet.
