About this book
Geofroy Tory is presented as an account of the life and works of a painter and engraver who reformed orthography and typography under François I. The account of Tory's work says painting manuscripts seems to have been the principal resource, with either insufficient work or a preference for another branch of art suggested as the reason for turning to wood engraving.
Tory undertook a series of antique-style borders for a book of Hours, a task described as long enough to require work for different printers in the meantime. The discussion of designs includes geometrical figures mostly representing letters and an engraving intended to assert the advantage of knowledge over ignorance.
